SteamWorld Build announced and coming later this year for all

Thunderful Games have revealed that they are powered by steam once more, with the reveal of SteamWorld Build, a new title in the SteamWorld series that provides a new genre for the series, city building, but keeps a few familiar aspects from games past. Check out the reveal trailer for the game below.

The game is being developed by The Station, one of Thunderful Games own studios and is one of the four titles in development. The gameplay will feel familiar to anyone who has played any other city building game, but as a SteamWorld game, digging is still a core part of it.

When The Station joined Thunderful in 2020 and told us that they wanted to make a city builder, we thought it offered a great opportunity for SteamWorld and Thunderful to move into another new genre. They know what it means to work on big IPs thanks to their experience developing for LittleBigPlanet, including crossovers with God of War, Dark Souls and many more. After losing plenty of hours getting sucked into the amazing gameplay loop they’ve created between overground city-building and underground mining, I can tell you that I’m really proud of what they’ve managed to do within the SteamWorld universe.

While you build above ground, you can also have bots digging in the mine. As you explore you will find gems and scrap, all sorts of items, that in turn let you build more and as you build more, you have to explore more.

As a city builder the game would feel right on PC, but the game is coming to all consoles and the developers made sure that every aspect would work for all platforms. Features that were designed, needed to work with a controller and if they didn’t, then they were removed from the game, which is very cool.

Right now the game is only dated for 2023, but that should change as we get closer to whatever the date is. For those who want to give it a go now, there is a demo out on PC.
