Civilization: Eras & Allies is bringing global conquest to your pocket
2K have announced that the game known as Conquests and Alliances - 4X Empire Builder, which has been in a soft launch state for a while now on Android, is getting a name change and will now be called Civilization: Eras & Allies.
The game has been out for a few months and is not going to release anytime soon in full, but the game is getting a name change. It is being developed by an external partner, with Firaxis providing guidance. That means that development of the next entry in the main Civilization series is still being worked on, just to make sure the developer has said this about the future of the series.
“As we announced earlier this year, Firaxis Games is in active development on the next iteration of the legendary Civilization franchise. We are working with an external partner specialising in mobile social strategy games to develop Civilization: Eras & Allies.”
So while development on the new mainline entry is going to happen, Civilization: Eras & Allies will be the game you can enjoy in the mean time.
“As part of our continued efforts to explore and expand into new audiences, Civilization: Eras & Allies is in soft launch in limited territories. Civilization: Eras & Allies is a new standalone free-to-play mobile 4X social strategy game, featuring exciting new gameplay mechanics designed with the mobile social strategy gamer in mind.”
As for when you can play Civilization: Eras & Allies, the game is going to remain in its soft launch phase for a while longer, with there being no set release date. There is not even any word on when the soft launch might extend to iOS. As the game is still in soft launch, aspects of it will change, so any videos you watch under its former name will not show what the final game may look like.
