Just days out from release, more new details are here for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
In another overnight video, who knows how many there have been now, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet got new details that show off mysterious books, Tera Raids and more. Check out the overview video below, which for some reason features Ed Sheeran.
Starting off with the Scarlet Book and Violet Book, great names, these are records of expeditions that happened a long time ago in the Paldea region. There is debate about the contents of the books and if the events recorded actually happened, with the names though you know where this is going. The Scarlet Book can only be found in Pokémon Scarlet and the Violet Book in Pokémon Violet, here is the official description on each.
Photographs and sketches of unidentified creatures fill the pages of both books. While there have been sightings of similar creatures in recent years, such reports are rare, and specific details of their biology are still a mystery.
The Monster Known as Great Tusk
The Scarlet Book describes how this savage monster attacked the expedition team with its large body and tusks, mortally wounding one of the explorers.
The Monster Known as Iron Treads
It is said in the Violet Book that when this monster curls its body and rolls to attack, it leaves a trail gouged into the ground, as if it had scorched the earth.
For those who don’t care about reading a book, or who just want more battles, new details for the Tera Raid Battles was also released. In the trailer we saw a team take on a few Pokémon in one of the battles, but leading into it were Black Crystals.
The Black Tera Raid crystals provide access to Pokémon that are much stronger than those that appear in ordinary Tera Raid Battles, the catch is that they are only available for a limited time. Trainers that manage to successfully defeat these Pokémon can get rewards that are even more exciting than usual.
The first Black Tera Raid will offer up Charizard as the challenger and there will be two times you can battle to have a chance at capturing one. This Charizard will be appearing during two time periods: first December 2–4, 2022, then again December 16–18, 2022.
Some of note is that Charizard cannot normally be encountered in Paldea, and the Charizard appearing during this event has Dragon as its Tera Type. You can learn more about the Black Tera Raids here.
Over the weekend and shown off again during the trailer, is the new Pokémon Gimmighoul, a ghost Pokémon with a habit of collecting coins.
These Gimmighoul hide inside sturdy treasure chests. While this provides them with a solid defense, the treasure chest’s weight causes Gimmighoul to move slowly, making travel difficult. It is not uncommon for Chest Form Gimmighoul to be mistaken for an antique and taken home or sold to an antique store.
When Gimmighoul senses a person or Pokémon draw near, it ambushes them. It then uses ghost energy to control its target, forcing them to collect coins. Because it often hides in warehouses, shop corners, and other places that people and Pokémon don’t frequent, it tends to keep persistent control of those it manages to encounter.
Category: Coin Chest Pokémon
Type: Ghost
Height: 1'
Weight: 11 lbs.
Ability: Rattled
It also has another form that goes without the chest, but as they run away from trainers, capturing one seems all but impossible.
